During her research on the Winterline (the 1943 WWII battle between the German and allied forces in Molise and Lazio, central Italy) Shemilt was given access to the archives in Filignano’s Commune. She became fascinated with the records of births, marriages and deaths, which evoked the narratives and identities of the local people and culture.
