Insurgencies – Feminist Avant-Garde of the 1970s: Works from the VERBUND COLLECTION, Vienna.

28 March – 28th June 2026

The exhibition Insurgencies – Feminist Avant-Garde of the 1970s: Works from the VERBUND COLLECTION, Vienna presents around 60 works of feminist art from the 1970s from our collection, complemented by artworks from MAC USP’s collection. The show examines the construction of femininity and explores what it meant to be a woman in the 1970s. It exposes stereotypes and clichés and illustrates how women artists, for the first time in the history of art, created a fundamentally new “image of the woman” from a female perspective—one that was subversive, ironic, and radical.
